Internships

An internship is a work experience related to your major. Most internships are unpaid, although it may be possible to earn academic credit and a grade for an internship experience.

Employers view internship candidates much the same way they view applicants for permanent positions. Employers have the right to accept or reject interested students. The student and the employer should reach full understanding regarding specific duties and responsibilities of the internship. The final job description should integrate the career goals of the students with the needs of the organization.

Internships typically require sophomore, junior or senior status. At many colleges, it is ultimately the student's responsibility to arrange the internship with the help of college staff.

“If students can get a technical skill and combine that with a strong, related academic curriculum, they get the best of both worlds.”
