Course 1: Designing and Managing a Quality Tech Prep Program


Perkins Plan -- Tech Prep For All

  • Perkins IV: New Vision for Tech Prep in Ohio

    • Teachers will understand what Perkins IV means for the classroom in terms of curriculum expectations (Programs of Study); performance standards and accountability as it impacts compliance and continued funding.
       

  • Why Tech Prep was created: National Perspective

    • Teachers will be able to understand the expectations for a Tech Prep program and how this concept evolved.
       

  • Ohio Tech Prep Website

    • Teachers will be able to navigate the Ohio Tech Prep Website to learn information and acquire resources.


Curriculum Development Processes

  • Career Fields Technical Content Standards (CFTCS)

    • Teachers will learn how to identity and use curricula documents that relate to their program and interpret these documents for course/program planning.
       

  • Curriculum Sequencing and Leveling

    • Teachers will learn how to organize curriculum and courses of study to align with CFTCS, academic standards, and program goals to ensure quality programming.
       

  • Articulation Agreements – Types and Issues

    • Teachers will understand their role in creating or ensuring articulation/postsecondary connections for their programs as well as acquire the skills to participate in these activities.
       

  • Programs of Study (POS) – The Ultimate Goal

    • Teachers will learn how to construct a Program of Study for their program


Program Management

  • Marketing and Recruitment

    • Teachers will learn the strategic components of a marketing plan to improve student recruitment and program visibility.
       

  • Business Community Partnerships

    • Teachers will gain ideas to strengthen business and industry resources/connections.
       

  • Student Activities/Clubs and Competitions (CTSO)

    • Teachers will gain an understanding of the variety of student organizations and competitions they can use to produce authentic assessments.
       

  • Student Support Services and Transitions to College

    • Teachers will learn how to assist students with the transition from high school to college and develop plans to avoid academic remediation.
